AT&T seems to be on the ball lately, mainly due to it’s recent announcement that a new Droid Incredible device will soon hit the market, and yet another new announcement this morning about a budget-friendly, LTE capable, Samsung Focus 2 that will be running the Windows Phone operating system.

The best selling point of the Samsung Focus 2 is that it will be going on sale at the end of May for a measly $49.99 (with a 2 year contract agreement of course). The low $50 price tag of the Focus 2 puts the Windows Phone and LTE capable device within an arms reach of budget-minded consumers.

AT&T’s LTE Capable, Samsung Focus 2

The Samsung Focus 2 was previously dubbed the Samsung Mandel. We’re not entirely sure why there was a need for a name change, but obviously Samsung saw one.

Samsung has yet to release a full list of the specifications and features included in the Focus 2, but we do know a little. The Focus 2 will feature a 4″ super-AMOLED touchscreen display which likely runs at a maximum supported resolution of 800×480. The Focus 2 will also include a 5 megapixel rear facing camera and a VGA front facing camera (webcam).

Rumors about the earlier named Mandel, stated that the device would include an 8GB internal storage capacity, which is a relatively small amount these days. Hopefully, Samsung will release more specific information about the Focus 2 before it is released.

The Focus 2 resembles the Focus S and the Focus Flash which were released last year and adopts the same glossy white body finish (both of the latter phones also included a separate model which was available in a glossy black finish).

The Nokia Lumia 900 & The HTC Titan II, The Samsung Focus 2’s True Competition

Consumers who aren’t interested in a budget friendly device and want a more premium offering should check out the similar Nokia Lumia 900 or the HTC Titan II. Both of the aforementioned phone models are running the Windows Phone operating system.

We covered the Nokia Lumia 900 recently, but we have not covered the HTC Titan II and its features. Therefore, we will do a quick rundown of the Titan II’s specifications for comparison with the lower end Samsung Focus 2.

The HTC Titan II is a smartphone running the Windows Phone OS, which was released in April, 2012. The Titan II includes a 4.7″ 480×800 pixel resolution display. The Titan II also includes a 16MP rear facing camera, with dual LED flash support and a front facing (1.3MP) camera.

The HTC Titan II Windows Phone is powered by a 1.5GHz Scorpion Qualcomm S2 Snapdragon processor and is backed by 512MB of installed RAM. In addition, the Titan II includes a 16GB storage capacity with no external storage or expansion slots.

It’s also worth noting that the HTC Titan II is available for $199.99 with the signing of a new 2 year contract and service agreement. It goes without saying, that’s a much higher price than the Focus 2’s $50 price tag.

The Samsung Focus 2

It’s highly likely that when the Samsung Focus 2 hits shelves at the end of May it will be met with plenty of interested consumers. The growing influx of budget friendly Android and Windows Phone devices have proven that more price conscious models are desired in the market. The issue with budget friendly devices is that often they are rarely worth the money invested, and thanks to better deals (like what Amazon Wireless offers), it’s possible to purchase a high-end device for the same price one would pay for a low end device.

Nevertheless the Samsung Focus 2 looks to be a successful budget friendly model for economical minded consumers. The Focus 2 doesn’t sacrifice features or looks for the sake of a lower cost. The body design of the Samsung Focus 2 still looks just as slick as the higher end Focus counterparts released last year.
